Meet The Priest
January 2024 UPDATE:
The Reverend Dr. Cecily Patrick Broderick Guerra began her ministry at Christ Church in June of 2023.
During her 36 years of ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church, Cecily has served in the Dioceses of Long Island and New York. Her ordained ministry began at St. Martha’s Church in the Bronx. Later she was called to serve as Canon Pastor at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan. For 11 years she served as rector of St. John’s Church in Hempstead. Twice in her career she served at historic St. Phillip’s Church in Harlem (first as curate and later as priest-in-charge).
For 14 years Cecily was the Vice President of Mission Integration supervising the Clinical Pastoral Care and Education Program, Patient Relations Department, and Guest Relations Department at St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway for Episcopal Health Services. She comes to Christ Church after serving as an Interim Minister for Stephen's Church in Jamaica and St Luke's Church in Forest Hills. She will continue to serve the Diocese of Long Island as a clergy coach, faculty at the George Mercer School of Theology, and Search Consultant in the Diocese of Long Island.
Cecily has a Bachelor's degree from Trinity College in Hartford and Oxford University in England, a Master of Divinity from Yale and Berkeley Divinity Schools, and a Doctor of Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary. She is a certified Franklin Covey Speed of Trust trainer, certified to administer Hogan Assessments, and a professional coach.
Cecily attended church with her parents (Mercedes and Cecil Broderick) from the age of 13. We celebrated her return with a party at the Broderick family home in Azurest last summer. Dr. Julie Bates, Cecily's spouse, joins the Stonybrook outpatient clinic in Hampton Bays this March. Cecil, their son, attend the Pierson Middle School. Dana, their daughter, attends the Glenholme Transition Program in Washington Connecticut.
We thank God that a daughter of this parish is working with us to revitalize the mission of Christ Church.
